Between competitors, emerging technologies and all the nuances with running a company, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with the idea of constantly watching trends in our industry. Butterball® Farms, Inc. is proud of the research and trend-watching our team stays on top of, providing you, our customers, the advantage to utilize success-driving strategies and maintain profitability.

So, what’s working?  What’s not? Is there a need in the industry to pivot away from previous goals and develop one of the latest trends?  Here we share some 2019 trends from both the retail consumer goods market, CPG-related butter products and food service.

HEALTH AND CONVENIENCE REMAINS A MEGA-TREND

 Not surprising, anything that can combine health and time savings is a WIN. Our consumer continues to struggle to balance the desire to prepare healthy foods and the amount of time they have in their daily schedules.  If you can solve this problem for them, you’re doing it right.

TASTE VARIATIONS – OLD IS NEW AGAIN!

 What are the requests? Think old favorites like Lemon Herb, Parmesan Black Peppercorn and the classic, Garlic Herb. Also passing through this year is a current interest in Mustard’s and Sriracha for some variety.

LOOKING BROADLY AT THE FOOD SERVICE CHANNEL, WHAT TRENDS HAVE STOOD OUT THIS YEAR?

Supplying operators are looking for companies that can deliver products that address the flavor, all-natural, plant based and earth healthy (packaging reduction) trends. Our Butterball® Butter Premium Balls® are a great, low-cost way to address all-natural, earth healthy concerns. Our dollops are being used across the industry to deliver a punch of flavor (citrus being a big 2019 flavor trend!), enabling the operator to deliver an outstanding taste profile to their guest, and get paid a little more for it.

WHAT WILL WE SEE NEXT?

Specialty sauces such as Béarnaise, Piccata and Scampi in portion-controlled dollop format, a new gravy dollop for the holiday season, and even some customized sauces for salmon and shrimp! We will also primarily address the convenience trend, with an improved easy serve tray with a film seal into food service.

Butterball® Farms stands at the epicenter of these trends.  We have the ability to supply small operators, start-up brands looking for a co-packer, and large companies that want to test ideas but then be able to scale to a national platform. We are willing to tackle batch sizes that our larger competitors will not consider, we are experts in handling and sourcing a multitude of raw products that can be problematic for the larger scaled players.  All of this makes us uniquely agile and puts Butterball® Farms in a great position to respond quickly to the fast-changing trends in the marketplace.
